Oamaru defeated Union in a low scoring 20/20 final at Awamoa Park on Saturday with Union unable to score the required eight runs off the last eight balls of the match while in the playoff for third and fourth Valley flailed the Albion attack passing the Albion total of 164 with nine wickets in hand. Union maintained its lead in Dick Hunt trophy cricket in Oamaru on Saturday when it defeated Valley by 80 runs at Weston Park and Albion beat Oamaru at Awamoa Park by five wickets. Opener Ben Cant scored 102 as Union beat Oamaru by six wickets in a Dick Hunt Trophy match on Saturday. Valley moved to outright lead in Borton Cup cricket with a five run win over Waitaki Boys High School at Weston Park. Albion demolished St Kevin's College winning by 169 runs at Awamoa Park while Union beat Oamaru by 192 runs at King George Park. North Otago had a first innings win over Mid Canterbury at the Ashburton Domain over the weekend in a Hawke Cup elimination game. North Otago won the toss and put the home side in to bat and dismissed it in the third session of play on the first day for 272. Three teams, Oamaru, Valley and St Kevin's College are tied at the top of the senior club cricket competition after the playing of the fifth round of Borton Cup on Saturday. Valley beat hitherto unbeaten Oamaru by 26 runs, St Kevin's beat Union by 27 runs and Albion defeated Waitaki Boys High School by eight wickets. Oamaru and St Kevin's College became joint Borton Cup leaders after the second round of the senior cricket competition in Oamaru on Saturday. Oamaru will play top qualifier Union in the Borton Cup cricket final next Saturday after Oamaru beat Albion by five wickets in the semi final on Saturday.
