All sides have wins in first weekend of NOCA cricket

All four senior club cricket sides had wins in the first two rounds of twenty/20 cricket played on artificial pitches.

In round one Valley, batting first, set Oamaru the task of scoring 211 to win the match.

Hayden Tisdall (50) gave Valley a great start and was backed up by Cameron Leckie (45), Reuben Simpson (20), Darcy Hooper-Smith (28 not out) and Tom Squire (35 not out).

Bowling for Oamaru, Glen Paterson took two for 33 and Ed Smith two for 19.

Valley dismissed Oamaru for 138 in 19 overs.

Paterson top-scored with 43, Ben Coleman made 28 and Nathan Johnston 27, while Nick Kelland took three for 16, Andrew Fisher three for 38, and Mike Todd two for three.

Albion made 146 for eight in its 20 overs, batting first against Union. Brad Kernahan top-scored with 55, while Scott Guyton added 35.

Bowling for Union, Isaac Shields took two for seven.

Union batted through its 20 overs but was restricted to 131 for eight. Glynn Cameron made 29, Duncan Drew 24, and Daniel Martin 26 not out, Kernahan took three for 18 for Albion.

In round two, Union beat Valley by 78 runs.

Union batting first, made 168 for six in its 20 overs. Duncan Drew made 45 off 28 balls and with Jeremiah Shields (28) added 49 for the second wicket, and featured in a third-wicket stand of 44 with Sean Conlan (28). Daniel Martin then made 22 off 12 balls.

Bowling for Valley, Andrew Fisher took three for 35.

Valley in reply was ousted for 90 runs in 14 overs. Cameron Leckie (21) and Reuben Simpson (25) were the pick of the Valley batsmen.

Chris Ware took three for seven off four overs, while Paul Johnston and Isaac Shields took two wickets each.

Although Oamaru made only 113 for six in its 20 o9vers it was enough to beat Albion by 48 runs. Batting first, Glen Paterson (33) and James Ferris (21) were the pick of the Oamaru batsmen, while Ricky Whyte took two for 29, and Scott Guyton three for 16.

In reply, Albion could muster only 65 runs in 16 overs. Jeremy Smith made 34, while James Mallinson took three for 18 and Ed Smith, four for one, including a hat-trick
