Top qualifier, Waitaki Boys High School which had the bye on Saturday will play Albion in the Borton Cup semifinals on Saturday after Albion was beaten by 108 runs by bottom team Oamaru/St Kevin’s College. In the other semi final Union which beat Valley this weekend by 120 runs will play Valley in the other semi final at King George Park next weekend.

Batting first at Centennial Park Oamaru/St Kevins through some enterprising batting by Regan George(62), Sammy Havea(34) and Jordan Bartlett(32) made 189 with Jeremy Smith taking three for 14 and Dylan Winter, three for 36. Led by Otago Volts Craig Smith the Oamaru/St Kevin’s bowling attack bowled Albion out for 87 in the twenty second over. Smith took three for 12 and Ben Cant three for 17 but the bowling honours went to Dylan Garroway who off just twelve balls took three for none.

An eighty nine run partnership for the fourth wicket between Duncan Drew(61) and Neil Rushton(29), both former Otago representatives guided Union to a home semi final defeating Valley on a dry, dusty Weston Park pitch by 120 runs.Dylan Edwards(46) and Glynn Cameron(22) added a bit of icing to see the side through to 207 for eight in its fifty overs.Francois Mostert and Cameron Grubb took three wickets each for Valley.Apart from Mostert’s 36, none of the Valley batsmen showed much stickability as the side collapsed to be dismissed for 87.Brad Fleming took four for eight, Paul Johnston, two for ten and Matt Lilley, two for 40 for Union.
