Albion win Borton Cup

The Borton Cup will spend the winter in the Albion clubrooms after Albion defeated Waitaki Boys High School First X1 by 107 runs in the final played at the Whitestone Stadium inner ground on Saturday.

Albion won the toss and elected to bat first in the fifty over final but against a tidy Waitaki Boys attack slumped to fifty seven for four after twelve overs with Mason James claiming three for 24 in his first spell. But help was on its way for Albion in the form of Brad Kernahan(56) and Dylan Winter(35) with the pair featuring in a sixth wicket stand of 100 before the side was finally dismissed for 205 in the 47th over. Bowling for Waitaki Boys James finished with five for 36 off his ten overs while Sam Senior and Francois Mostert both claimed two wickets each.

Against a tight Albion bowling attack led by skipper Ricky Whyte Waitaki Boys struggled to 41 for three, 77 for seven and 94 for nine before the final wicket fell at ninety eight. Mostert top scored with twenty while Jake Matthews added nineteen invaluable runs. Bowling for Albion Whyte claimed three for 28, Brady Kingan, two for 18 and Dylan Winter,two for 13.
