Oamaru to play Union in Borton Cup Final

Oamaru will play top qualifier Union in the Borton Cup cricket final next Saturday after Oamaru beat Albion by five wickets in the semi final on Saturday. Albion won the toss and decided to bat first in the 45 over match. It found runs had to get against the pace of David Sewell whose three for five off his first five overs had Albion reeling at 38 for three after just nine overs. St Kevin's College scored an upset eight wicket win over Union in the final round of Borton Cup qualifying play but it was to no avail as Union had already qualified for the final on points. Union maintained a 20 point lead in Borton Cup cricket when it struggled to a four wicket win over Valley at Weston. Third placed Albion moved to within 10 points of second placed Oamaru with a 37 run win over Oamaru while Waitaki Boys High School gave itself a chance of making the semi finals when it beat St Kevin's College by 70 runs at Milner Park. The weather played a major role in the Dick Hunt trophy final played at Whitestone stadium on Saturday between top qualifiers Oamaru and Union. Albion won the Tui 20/20 tournament played at Whitestone Contracting stadium on Saturday with a six wicket win over Union in the final. A magnificent 143 from wicketkeeper batsman Scott Simpson carried Oamaru to a 125 run win over Albion in Dick Hunt trophy cricket on Saturday. North Otago beat Southland on the first innings in a Hawke Cup elimination match played at Queens Park over the weekend. Southland won the toss on Saturday and elected to bat, albeit in rather pedestrian fashion, to be 90 for four at lunch. Union and Valley scored wins in the dick Hunt trophy competition played over the holiday period. Valley beat Albion by eight wickets at Weston while Union downed Oamaru by seven wickets.
