Darren Broom

In an announcement today on the New Zealand Cricket website North Otago Hawke Cup team member Darren Broom was confirmed as the twelfth Otago contracted player for the forthcoming first class cricket season.

Darren's century in the Hawke Cup challenge was closely followed by a century in his first class debut the following weekend. Peter Cameron, chairman of the North Otago Cricket Association said how pleasing it was to see that Hawke Cup cricket can be used as a pathway to higher honours but it may make it difficult for him to offer his services for the Hawke Cup elimination series and defences due to clashes with first class fixtures.

Otago Volts Coach Mike Hesson said that "Darren receiving a contract was good reward for a promising start to his first class career last season. A number of impressive innings including a century on debut in the Plunket Shield and an innings of 70 in his last one day game were stand out performances. Darren is a batsman of real promise and we look forward to his contribution to the squad this season".
