Union and Oamaru are the only unbeaten teams after the third round of Borton Cup cricket on Saturday. Union beat St Kevin's College by six wickets and Oamaru in a low scoring game beat Valley by five wickets while Albion defeated Waitaki Boys High School by 31 runs.
David Sewell took the honours in the Oamaru/Valley game. Oamaru put Valley in to bat and Sewell scythed through the Valley line-up to take seven for 14 off his ten overs as Valley with seven ducks collapsed to be all out for 54 in the 22nd over. Oamaru took only 13 overs to pass the Valley total although it lost five wickets in the process with Tom Squire taking three for 16 off three overs.
Union sent St Kevin's College in to bat first and the College side after being 62 for five after 26 overs recovered to finally be dismissed for 153 in the 42nd over. Tom Gourlay(50) and Tim O'Connor(30) led the revival. Phil Crossan, Chris Ware and Paul Johnston each took two wickets for Union.
An unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 86 between Duncan Drew (47 not out) and Glynn Cameron (31 not out) guided Union through to 159 for four in the 28th over with the St Kevin's bowlers contributing 49 wide's. Richard Turner took two for 24.
Asked to bat first by Waitaki Boys Albion made 176 before the final wicket fell in the 38th over. Brad Kernahan top scored with 53 and further down the order Dylan Winter added 36.Matt Machan, Riley Rooney and Shaun Todd each took three wickets for Waitaki Boys. Waitaki lost the early wicket of Sussex professional Machan for three early in the innings and after 16 overs Waitaki was staggering at 83 for six. Sean Eathorne came to light with 68 to finally see Waitaki dismissed in the 32nd over for 145, 31 runs short of its target. Ricky Whyte finished with five for 43 and Marshall Smith took three for 21.
