Valley and Union registered wins in Dick Hunt Trophy cricket played in Oamaru on Saturday. Valley beat Oamaru by five wickets while Union defeated Albion by a similar margin.

Oamaru won the toss and elected to bat first at Weston against Valley and at 118 for three after 25 of the 50 overs looked set for a big total but Regan George was the only Oamaru batsman to develop and innings with 47 as Oamaru slumped to 149 for four, 173 for seven before the final wicket fell at 198 in the 46th over. Geoff Mavor took four for 29 and Gargan Singh, two for 25.

Aided by a multitude of extras Valley passed the Oamaru total with five wickets intact. Valley after nine overs was 73 for one before opener Nick Webster was dismissed for 21. Darcy Smith( 38) and Byron Neill(27) saw Valley safely through to 199 for five with Richard Turner taking four for 52 for Oamaru.

Union asked Albion to bat first at the KGP. The Albion batsmen never warmed to the task with Darren Shillito(24),Gareth Duncan(27) and Brad Kernahan(21) were the best of the Albion batsmen as the side was dismissed for 121 in the 24th over. Phil Crossan took four for 50, Todd Sidon two for 23 and a miserly Paul Johnston, three for nine off just three overs.

Mitch McRae(42) and Sean Conlan(54) guided Union through to 125 for five in the 24th over with Kernahan taking two for 21.
