North Otago completed its preparation for its Hawke Cup elimination matches, the first of which is against South Canterbury in Oamaru next weekend, with a six wicket win over Mid Canterbury in Oamaru yesterday.
Mid Canterbury won the toss and elected to bat but some poor batting saw the side dismissed for 121 in the 29th over. At one stage it looked as though Mid Canterbury would struggle to reach the century mark but a 51 run ninth wicket partnership dominated by Richard Print(41) saw Mid Canterbury reach triple figures.
Medium pacer Gary Clearwater took four for 28 off seven overs while Ricky Whyte and Chris Ware took two wickets each.
Two good partnerships guaranteed North Otago its win. Jeremiah Shields(33) and Chris Cunningham put on 57 for the second wicket after the early demise of opener Stephan Grobler.
The third and fourth wickets fell cheaply but Anthony Sewell(39 not out) and Tim O'Malley produced an unbeaten 49 run stand to the fifth wicket to give North Otago a comfortable six wicket win with 15 overs remaining.
Ben Payne, Rhys Phillips, Des Kruger and Jeremy Duckmanton took a wicket each for the visitors.
