Valley will meet Albion in the Dick Hunt trophy final next weekend after both had wins in the final round of qualifying last Saturday. Valley beat Oamaru by six wickets at Whitestone Centennial Park while at Awamoa Park Albion defeated Union by 15 runs.

Oamaru batted first against Valley and was in immediate trouble at 47 for four after 20 overs with Blair Malcolm claiming three for 10. Oamaru mainly through some solid batting from David Sewell struggled through to 128 before the tenth wicket fell in the 46th over. Malcolm off his 10 overs took four for 30, Hayden Tisdall claimed three for 22 off his ten while Hamish McKenzie finished with two for 26 of 8.3 overs.

Valley struggled from the start slumping to 38 for four after 14 overs. Valley then lost Byron Neil(25) who had to retire hurt with a leg injury but Nick Webster(37 not out) and Hamish McKenzie(34 not out) produced an unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 57 to take Valley through to 129 for four.

Sewell took two for seven off seven overs while Clearwater finished with two for 27.

Albion upset Union at Awamoa Park and batting first made 150 runs in 48 overs. Although Albion lost two early wickets an 87 run fourth wicket stand between Bard Kernahan(50) and Steve Halliwell(24) gave Albion the momentum required. Jeremy Smith chimed in with 28. Bowling for Union Glynn Cameron and Duncan Drew took three wickets each while Jason Todd and Paul Johnston took two each.

Union started to be 36 for five after 16 overs with Kernahan scything through the Union top order taking four for ten off his first seven overs. Only Antony Cromwell (61) defied the Albion attack as it dismissed Union for 135 in the 35th over. Kernahan finished with four for 12 while Smith gave solid backing with four for 31 off 7.2 overs.
