The match between the North Otago and Hawke's Bay representative sides was continued yesterday afternoon with the visitor's tail wagged to such purpose that the last two wickets added 112 runs. Simpson, Reaney and Fitzwater defied the bowling determinedly and hit freely yet not rashly. Simpson's 59 included 10 fours and Reaney hit a six and four fours. North Otago lost Dick early, caught in the slips, but Uttley and Brown batted safely. Light rain was falling and the bowlers had difficulty holding the ball, but they preserved an effective control of direction and length, and runs were not easy to collect. Both Beuth and Reaney swung the new ball, and Brown edged one to the slips. In the last over before drawing of stumps Uttley also fell to a smart slips catch. This morning A. Brooker who overnight was not out with 12, did not add to his score, being caught of Reaney. Zimmerman and McDonald added 120 to the total before the latter who batted in his best form for 61, was caught behind the wicket. At lunch Zimmerman who had been subdued was 67 and Carrington had just made a start.
