North Otago gained an outright victory over South Canterbury by 24 runs to claim the Richards Trophy in the two-day match played at Timaru during the weekend.
Declaring their second innings closed with seven wickets down for 134 runs North Otago set South Canterbury the task of scoring 175 runs for victory in even time.
North Otago won the toss and batted first on a wicket which was slow after heavy overnight rain. Some sound batting was seen from J. Brown and C. Graham.
In South Canterbury's first innings M. Sandri bowled above himself to claim five wickets in conditions most unfavourable for his fast attack. Each of the spinner(s), J. Wilson, K. Murray and K. Ellis made valuable contributions by taking three wickets in the match.
North Otago's second innings total was built up by some attractive batting by W. Kerr, Murray and R. Grant.
