An end-season match between North Otago and Ashburton sides was begun on the School ground yesterday in mild and pleasant weather, which in the afternoon become cold and boisterous. The visitors had first hand on a perfect wicket and made 193. The local fielding was slack, and several of the team appeared to be only mildly interested. Drinnan; who times well and hits hard, made 80,, using for the purpose a good variety of shots. He gave several chances at various stages of his innings and appeared lucky with the short stuff on the off, at which he nibbled dangerously. He and G. Nicoll added 85 runs at a time when runs were much needed. Keith bowled very well, as his average, five for 37, shows, and Zimmerman, four for 49, also helped in the downfall of the visitors. Milner, too, bowled very usefully against the wind. North Otago started badly, losing Sumpter and Uttley for 11 runs.
