South Canterbury reached North Otago's first innings total with two wickets to spare in the drawn two-day match at Waimate at the weekend.

Batting first on a docile pitch at Knottingley Park, North Otago made 273.

The backbone was provided by R. Wilson (72) and A. Cartwright (62), in a seventh-wicket stand of 126.

B. Andrews (73) and R. Murdoch (43) were top scores for South Canterbury until T. Underdown of the later batsmen made a determined 60 which took his side past North Otago's total.

South Canterbury was nine for 328 when stumps were drawn.
