Home team all out for 35 runs

Playing the Southland touring side on the High School ground this morning in the first representative match to be played in North Otago fro some years, North Otago took first strike and the side was disposed of for 35 runs. Southland, at luncheon adjournment had no wickets down for 60 runs.

The recent heavy rain had affected the wicket and the outfield was slow.

Kinder won the toss and North Otago batted. The pitch was a little erratic, some balls being inclined to hang, while others came through surprising fast.

Overton bowled from the south end and in his first over Rawstorn, feeling for one well out, snicked it into the keepers hands.

Marshall in his first over from the north end bowled McIvor with an offbreak.

When Thomas was bowled by Marshall, the score read three wickets for four.

Kinder played aggressively from the start and in his score of 17 there was only one single. He hit cleanly and confidently.

Hall was shaping well but was snapped up by the keeper.

The innings closed for 35.

Lack of experience was evident in the local batsmen. Only three Southland bowlers were used. Overton, medium out-swinger bowled unchanged throughout the innings and took four wickets for 12 runs off 11 overs; Marshall, a medium off-break bowled three for 16, and Boyle, slow left-hand, three for four.

Dunned was impressive behind the stumps, but some of the throwing in from the field was not good.

Southland started with Pollock and Spence to the bowling of Hall and Bee. Neither the run-up nor the pitch were suited to pacy bowlers and Hall found difficulty with his length. The batsmen scored steadily, Spence showing a penchant for the hook. He hit two fine sixes, one off Wilson and one of McIvor. The pair were undefeated at lunch with none for 60.
