A somewhat emasculated North Otago team began a match with a South Canterbury side yesterday at the school. South Canterbury won the toss, and batted first on a wicket that was slower than usual. Angland and Mason gave the visitors a good start before the former was stumped off Walton after making a patient 17. The School left-hander also bowled Kane for 0, but Herdman got 16 before he shared the same fate. Saunders and Seton were the only others to cause the bowlers any trouble. Keith bowled well and took six wickets for 37, Walton getting three for 34. The North Otago batsmen failed to get going, only L. Brooker, Davey and Walton reaching double figures in a meagre total of 62. Herdman and Grieve were the chief destroying agencies for the visitors.
