The match between Southland and North Otago was brought to an inconclusive end on Saturday. North Otago opened their second innings with Uttley and Dick. The latter early poked a simple catch to point but Uttley and Brown showed good form. The former was steady and the latter played several good shots for his runs before he was caught. Uttley jumped out to McKay and was stumped but Zimmerman and Blakely constituted a sound partnership. The captain showed a sound defence with occasional glimpses of his hitting powers, during which he hit a fine six and two fours off King in one over. The visitors bowling was not troublesome and runs came at a good pace. During the tea adjournment rain fell and a restart was delayed. After a further half hour's play heavier rain made a continuance impossible, and the match was abandoned, the local side having fully re-established the ground lost in the first innings.
