N.O. Plays Ashburton
North Otago walks of the field at stumps on the second day of the Hawke Cup Challenge

In a two-day cricket match against Ashburton for the Richards Trophy, North Otago won the toss and batted first and were dismissed for 240 runs. At stumps Ashburton, after 66 minutes batting, had scored 109 runs for the loss of five wickets. The wicket was damp in the morning but dried out in the afternoon.

G. Parker and R. Gourley opened for North Otago and Gourley was soon dismissed. Parker played attractively and scored 45 before being dismissed with the score at four for 65.

A. Kelman, one of the most promising youngsters in North Otago cricket, was ninth man in and he settled down quickly to score 39 runs, not out, before the innings closed.

C. Robertson, 39 not out, and S. Goodwin 32, were the most successful of the Ashburton batsmen on the first day.
