An Otago team arrived this morning to play a match against North Otago at the school ground. The local players had first use of a wicket faster than any that has been prepared this season, and against the fast bowling of Nimmo the opening batsmen were mistiming badly. A. Brooker secured a nice boundary behind point of the first ball he received from Nimmo, who making the ball rise abruptly but was bowled later in the over. On the same bowler's following over Uttley shaped to hook a ball, and in his effort to withdraw when found the ball had risen too high for the stroke, cocked a catch up to second slip. Zimmerman and Brown looked like restoring North Otago's fortunes when the latter was very well caught in the slips by Vorrath, of Leader, and three wickets were down for 49. McDonald had not got going before he was smartly stumped by Heenan off the same bowler. Brown, who was defending well, and Carrington made a better showing, and though runs did not come fast, the score mounted steadily until the luncheon adjournment, when the score had passed 60.
