The victorious St Kevins team with the Payne Tempero Cup
Friday, 9 January 1953

The North Otago representative side, playing a two-day match against South Canterbury at Timaru, made a poor showing in the first innings, being all out for 68. Herron alone showed resistance to the bowling of Williams and Phillips, South Canterbury fared very little better, making only 99. N. McDiarmid was right on the spot, claiming six victims at a cost of 28, while Sandri took three for 20. In their second essay, after losing Herron and Neave cheaply, North Otago made a good recovery through the agency of Nuttal and Geddes, who gave the brightest batting display of the day. At the close of play North Otago had lost four wickets for 95.
