Canterbury B beat North Otago by two wickets in an exacting finish to an entertaining two-day representative cricket match which ended at Oamaru yesterday. Requiring 188 runs to win in 195 minutes the visitors got home with 26 minutes to spare.

A cold southerly wind blew across the Waitaki Boy's High School ground, but the wicket remained firm and good.

North Otago's 214 runs were scored in 210 minutes.

A sixth-wicket stand of 93 by P. Mullins and D. Gallop was instrumental in giving Canterbury its win after North Otago had struck early blows.

Mullins made 49 in 69 minutes and Gallop 42 in 66 minutes. They took the score from five for 61 to 154.

After Mullin's dismissal from a good ball by Sandri, Canterbury required 34 to win in 50 minutes. Then North Otago came into the picture again with Sandri collecting two quick wickets, and Canterbury was faced with making 19 runs in 35 minutes with two wickets remaining.

R. Prouting, with D. Reid playing a defensive role, soon polished off the deficit to gave Canterbury a narrow win.
