Thursday, 30 November 1961

A fast century by D.J. Vear put Southland in a good position against North Otago yesterday in the Country Week tournament at Dunedin, helping his side to a lead of 23 runs on the first innings. North Otago knocked 240 on the first day of play, but looked in danger of being beaten outright yesterday when wickets fell quickly at the beginning of the second innings, but the later batsmen held on to take the total through to 119 leaving Southland no time to bat again.
