Central Otago had a clear cut win over North Otago in a Hawke Cup representative cricket match played at Oamaru over the weekend.

Central Otago won the toss and put North Otago in to bat. The North Otago side was dismissed for 129 with B. Davidson top-scoring with a solidly-complied 55.

Bowling for Central Otago, Peter Petherick took five for 47 and R. Golden two for 17.

In reply, Central Otago made 175 (S. McKnight 44, I. Smith 33, L. Anderson 28 not out). A Cartwright was on form with his bowling, taking four wickets for 28, and L. Shea four for 64.

R. Payne and S. Gunby (17) combined well in a good opening partnership of 61 for North Otago which scored 133 in its second innings. I. Geddes had a good knock of 26 including two sixes.

Etheric took six for 74 and S. McKnight four for 11.

Central Otago required 88 runs to win the match and made a start to be 73 for none, before the wickets started to fall. C. Buttar contributed 57 runs of the final score of 92 for three.
