South Canterbury was on top of North Otago all the way in the annual representative cricket match played on Awamoa Park over the weekend, but the result was draw.

North otago scored 140 and 144* for six in reply to South Canterbury's innings of 292.

South Canterbury had the edge on North Otago in both batting and fielding, with nine North Otago batsmen going out to catches in the first innings after failing to get over the ball.

North Otago batted first and was dismissed for 140, A Cartwright making 31 before being run out, G. Gunby and R. Wilson 22. Gunby and Wilson settled in for a good second wicket partnership of 62, but the South Canterbury fieldsmen and bowlers struck home until R. Paul joined Cartwright for a useful lower-order partnership.

Leg-spinner J. Vercoe sent down a good length finishing with figures of five for 66. Nine North Otago batsmen went out caught, Ward and Parker taking three apiece.

South Canterbury made a hesitant start with three wickets falling for 59, but middle-order batsmen G. Aitken (22), J. Ward (55), M Parker (88) and J. Vercoe (20) put the side well ahead. Opening batsmen Andrews made 41 and Murdoch 29.

North Otago's opening bowler L. Shea took three for 87, and R. Paul struck form in a long spell at the wicket taking five for 92.

North Otago was content to play out time for a draw on a good wicket in the second innings and was 144 for six at stumps. N. McKenzie was not out for 48. Geddes added 22 and Lockhart and Payne 16 apiece.
