A cricket match between North Otago and Langford Smith's eleven played at Awamoa, resulted in a draw. When stumps were drawn, Smith's side was six down for 156, in reply to North Otago's 183 for nine declared.

North Otago batted first on a well prepared pitch, but lost its first two wickets with only three runs on the board.

This brought N. McKenzie in to partner S. Gunby, and he immediately displayed good form with a square-cut which raced over the boundary. This partnership made 121 runs.

Gunby was first out, bowled by J. Cushen for 54. McKenzie reached 78 before he, too, was out to Cushen. His innings included nine 4s and one 6.

With time running out for North Otago, M. Wheeler made a quick 28, which included four 4s and a 6.

North Otago then declared with 183 runs for nine wickets.

B. Andrews and J. Cushen were Smith's most effective bowlers, each claiming four wickets. Andrews bowled steadily into the breeze in the early stages and later had the batsmen troubled when he bowled down wind.

Smith's openers, G Turner and W. Blair, started confidently but Blair was out with the total of 27 when he was bowled by T. Hore. Three overs later Turner was caught in the slips off L. Shea.

W. Lees and C. Dickel shared in a good partnership of 40 before Lees was out. Dickel and R. Stewart took the score from 98 to 127.

G. Powell made a bright 19 and stumps were drawn with Smith's eleven 156 for six.
