North Otago, with 114 on the board for the loss of four wickets was well on the way to overhauling Otago B's 237 for nine declared at the end of the first day of their representative cricket match at Logan Park yesterday.
M. McKenzie, the North Otago captain, got on top of the bowling and scored a fine unbeaten 54. He was ably assisted by Hoskin, who was not out 17 at the close of play.
Otago won the toss and had first strike on a perfect batting pitch. The first five batsmen each totalled more than 20, R. Hendry making top score of 37.
G. Beer was able to declare the innings closed at tea.
The best bowling analysis was returned by Holmes, who took four for 40 off 11 overs.
North Otago lost three early wickets - Warren and Austin without scoring - but McKenzie batted intelligently to overcome this setback.
Bowling for Otago G. Powell took two wickets and C.J. McDonald and L. Anderson one each.
