Central Otago scored an unexpected outright win by 98 runs over North Otago after leading by 22 runs on the first innings and declaring with 151 for the loss of eight wickets in the second at afternoon tea.
North Otago collapsed in its second innings and was out for 75 a few minutes before 6 pm. The main features of the mornings batting were the displays of two of the younger brigade from North Otago, K. Ellis and J. Wilson.
Ellis stroked the ball well and scored a fluent 48 to give him a good double, for he had taken three wickets for 38 with his spinners in Central's first innings.
Wilson finished the innings with 35 not out, and he, too, impressed with his ability to play the correct strokes. His first four scoring strokes all produced boundaries.
There was little to distinguish the Central Otago batting or the bowling of North Otago with the exceptions that S.C. McKnight was better form with the bat, M. Blakely was in the runs again, and North Otago's P. Grenfell bowled well and economically in taking his four wickets.
W. Bridgeman was Central's top bowler in the first innings taking five wickets (four of them down yesterday morning) for 57 runs.
The combined team to play Metropolitan is as follows - J.C. Alabaster, P.A.Sharp, M. McEwen (Southland), J. White, B. Papps, A. Cartwright, M. Ellis, M. Sandri (North Otago), D. Buttar, S.G. McKnight, A. Morgan (Central Otago), I.D. Smith (Central Otago) is twelfth man.
