South Canterbury defeated North Otago by 114 runs in a fifty over hawke Cup warm up game in Oamaru yesterday.North Otago won the toss and sent South Canterbury in to bat and an opening stand of 130 between Richie Preston(81) and and James Laming gave the vistors a great start and an 82 run sixth wicket stand between Sam Carlaw(82) and Zane Sanders enabled South Canterbury to make 283 for eight in its fifty overs.

Bowling for North Otago Ed Smith took three for 64 while Chris Ware and Stephan Grobler took two wickets each.

North Otago batted through its fifty overs to be 169 for eight at stumps with the feature being a sixth wicket partnership between Duncan Drew(48) and Ed Smith(20) while further down the order wicketkeeper Darcy Hooper-Smith added 22.Bowling for South Canterbury James Laming took two for 11 off seven overs.
