Mid Canterbury defeated North Otago by 47 runs in a final preseason warm-up game. Mid Canterbury won the toss and made 215 for seven in its fifty overs. Openers Ben Ward(42) and Matt Winter(50) featured in an opening stand of 59 . Rhys Phillips (45)was the pick of the remaining batsmen, with a fifth wicket stand of 50 helping Mid Canterbury’s cause.

Ben Cant was the pick of the North Otago bowlers taking two for 40, with Nick Kelland, Chris Ware, Jordan Horrell, Ricky Whyte and George Inwood taking a wicket each.

Once again North Otago batted through its fifty overs with Cant (33), Jeremiah Shields(26), Stephan Grobler(34) and Chris Ware(23 not out) the best of the batsmen.

Bowling for Mid Canterbury Harry Jones,Reece Phillips, Matt Tait and William Southby took two wickets each.

Next weekend the first round of Hawke Cup elimination matches will be played. South Canterbury will host North Otago and Otago Country will play Southland at Molyneux Park, Alexandra.
