South Canterbury defeated North Otago by an innings and 26 runs at Aorangi Park in a two day Hawke Cup elimination match over the weekend.

North Otago won the toss and elected to bat first and went to lunch on Saturday,54 for four. Shortly before tea the North Otago innings folded at 147 with Ben Cant(22) and Duncan Drew (33) showing some resistance. Bowling for South Canterbury Matt Woods took four for 25 and Sam Carlaw,three for 40.

South Canterbury at stumps on the first day was 124 for two just 23 runs in arrears with a day to play. South Canterbury flayed the North Otago attack on Sunday morning and declared shortly before lunch at 293 for five with Nick Horsley(101) and opener Craig Davies(55) well supported by captain, Sam Carlaw(50 not out), giving the home side a first innings lead of 146.Bowling for North Otago Cant took two for 44 off thirteen overs.

North Otago requiring 147 runs to make South Canterbury bat again was dismissed shortly after tea on the second day for 120 with Cant (62) producing some defiant batting along with Darcy Hooper-Smith who was unbeaten on 21. Woods with four for 24 in the second innings finished with a match analysis of eight for 49, while Simon Murphy claimed two for 38 and Craig Hinton, two for 41.
