Union hung on to beat Albion by one wicket in the 50 over Dick Hunt Trophy final at Awamoa Park on Saturday. Albion won the toss and decided to bat first on a pitch which had been affected by heavy rain midweek. The batsmen found the ball not coming onto the bat and slumped to 68 for four and at drinks was 74 for four. Nigel Moriarty(64) and Tom Dwyer(31) resurrected the innings with a seventh wicket stand of 53 with Hayden McKenzie adding an invaluable 22 before Albion was dismissed for 181.
Left armer Duncan Drew produced the fine figures of five for 44 while Glynn Cameron and Matt Lilley took two wickets each.
Union lost opener Ryan Whitburn to Brad Kernahan’s second ball of the match but Drew and Jeremiah Shields set about building an innings with Drew out lbw to Ricky Whyte for 39 which included five fours. Sean Conlan’s innings of 52 kept Union on track. Albion struck back and took the ninth wicket with Union 11 runs short of its target of 182. Jake Greenslade(30 not out) and Isaac Shields saw the side through to the target in the 44th over. Ricky Whyte took three for 46 and Kernahan and Tom Hoornweg claimed a couple of wickets each.
In the Senior Reserve final Valley,118 for six, beat Glenavy, 117.
