Albion beat Union by four runs in the first round of the Dick Hunt Trophy on Saturday.

Batting first, Albion made 226 all out with the final wicket falling in the 50th over. Jeremy Smith top scored with 74 and received good support from Gary Mahuika (33) and Steve Halliwell (20). Bowling for Union, Matt Lilley took four for 46 off 7.1 overs while Paul Johnston and Duncan Drew took two wickets each. Despite some good batting from Glynn Cameron (33), Thomas Shields (46) and Sean Conlan (45), Union was still 4 runs short at the completion of 50 overs. Nathan Smith took four for 33, and Marshall Smith two for 55.

Oamaru beat Valley by seven wickets. Batting first, Valley made 106 all out in the 25th over with Reuben Simpson top scoring with 37. Mark Julius and Matt Murphy took four wickets each for Oamaru. Oamaru raced through to be 107 for three at the conclusion of the game.
