Albion handed unbeaten Union its first Borton Cup defeat of the season when in the fifth round it scored a convincing 63 run victory at King George Park.

Union won the toss and put Albion in to bat and the visitors scored brightly to be 51 for one after ten overs with opener Jon Sinclair out for 23.Albion lost Peter Cartwright soon after but Brad Kernahan(56) and Darren Shillito(37) saw Albion through to 185 for six after 39 of the 45 overs. Albion batted through its 45 overs to be 212 for seven with Steve Halliwell(27) and Dylan Winter(21 not out) adding valuable runs late in the innings. Dan Conlan, Paul Johnston and Glynn Cameron took two wickets each for Union.

The demise of opener James Cutt(31) saw Union slump to 78 for five after only 19 overs with Dan Fletcher and Paul O'Dell making early inroads into the Union batting line-up with O'Dell at one stage sitting on a hat trick. Mitch McRae(43) and Johnston(23) stiffened the Union resistance further down the order before the final wicket fell at 149 in the 33rd over. O'Dell finished with four for 42, Kernahan, three for 52 and Daniel Fletcher, two for 31.

Valley recorded its first win of the season with a 103 run win over St Kevin's College. Valley won the toss and batting first after five overs was 18 for one. Scott Kingan(26) and Neil Gilbert(59) resurrected the innings with John Blakely adding an invaluable 47 further down the order before the tenth wicket fell at 207. Ben Cant took six for 39 for St Kevin's.

The early loss of English player/coach, Simon Butler for nine in the first eight overs saw the College hopes dim. Cant batted solidly for his 23 . Hamish McKenzie took two early wickets for 15 but it was Simon Robins who cleaned out St Kevin's taking four for 16 off seven overs to dismiss the side for 104 in the 35th over.

Waitaki Boys won the toss and asked Oamaru to bat a task that Oamaru appreciated as it raced through to 244 for six in its 45 overs. Openers Josh Gutsell(78) and Robbie Hill(51) produced a first wicket stand of 151 to create the momentum and Glen Paterson(35) chimed in further down the order. Nathan Hill took two for 40 for Waitaki.

Waitaki started slowly needing 245 to win and after nine overs was 25 without loss. Jordan Horrell(70) and Stu Dickinson((52) provided some resistance but wickets fell regularly as the side slumped to be 180 for eight at the end of the 45th over. Khalil took four for 27 and David Sewell, three for 32.
