Albion make it three from four Tui Twenty/20 Competitions

Albion won the Tui 20/20 tournament played at Whitestone Contracting stadium on Saturday with a six wicket win over Union in the final. In the playoff for third and fourth, Oamaru beat Valley by 42 runs.

In the semi finals Union beat Valley by 28 runs. Batting first Union made 106 before the tenth wicket fell in the 20th over. James Cutt made 38 while bowling for Valley James McNally took four for 22 and Geoff Mavor two for 24.Valley made a bright start and after six overs was 46 for three but the last seven wickets fell for the addition of only 32 runs as the side was dismissed for 78 in the 18th over. Byron Neil top scored with 27 while Paul Johnston and Cutt took three wickets each for Union.

Albion had to survive a late charge from Oamaru in the other semi final. Albion made 156 for eight in its 20 overs with Simon Butler leading the way with 57. Bowling for Oamaru Nick Johnston took four for 30 and Jamie Ferris two for 31. Oamaru appeared to be down and out at 36 for three after six overs but a resurgence led by Khalil(26) and Robbie Hill(50) saw Oamaru fall four runs short of the target at the end of the 20 overs with two wickets in hand.

In the playoff for third and fourth Oamaru made 178 for eight in its 20 overs against Valley with David Sewell(33) and Alex Baddock(27) the best of the batsmen. Scott Young took three for 38 for Valley while Adrian Myburgh and John Blakely took two wickets each .In reply Valley struggled through to 136 for four in its 20 overs with Callum Kingan(37) and Geoff Mavor(26) both unbeaten.

Union made a solid start in the final and after five overs was 25 without loss. But wickets fell regularly and the side was 94 for nine at the end of the 20 overs. Dylan Winter took three for 11 and Paul O'Dell two for 16).

Albion need only 13.2 overs to pass the Union total with six wickets in hand. Simon Butler made 27 and Brad Kernahan was not out on 28.
