Oamaru/St Kevin's all rounder James Ferris lit up the first round of Borton Cup cricket when against Valley he hit a century of just 25 balls. His unbeaten 107 included 11 sixes and six fours as Oamaru/St Kevin's passed Valley's total of 184 all out with six wickets in hand.

Valley batted first and made 184 runs, Reuben Simpson top-scoring with 56. Other contributors were Andrew Harding (33), Cameron Grubb (30) and Tony Gray (32).

Bowling for Oamaru/St Kevin's, Robbie Breen took five for 53 and Nick Johnston four for 28.

Then the Ferris onslaught with the bat began, with support coming from Ashley Abraham (48), while Nathan McLaughlin took three for 41 for Valley.

Ferris' 50 came of 14 balls and with Abraham he produced a fourth-wicket stand of 135.

Waitaki Boys High School first XI produced a tidy line and length bowling attack to defeat Union by eight runs on the all-weather pitch at Don Field.

Waitaki Boys', batting first in the 50-over contest, made 113 in 36.3 overs, with Scott Kitto and Hayden Creedy both making 22. Blake James took three for 22 while Sam Bastin and Brad Fleming took two wickets each.

Accurate bowling restricted Union to just 105, with the final wicket falling in the 29th over. Mason James took five for 18 and Creedy two for 20.
