North Otago won the toss at the Ashburton Domain yesterday against Mid Canterbury, in the final 60-over warm-up game before Hawke Cup elimination games begin next weekend, when it will host Otago Country in a two-day game.
It decided to bat first and was dismissed for 183 in 59.2 overs, with Francois Mostert providing much needed stability with a fine 82, which included seven fours and a six, before the innings closed with three balls remaining.
Cormack Haslett, batting at three, compiled 39, the only other batsman to show any form apart from opener Brady Kingan with 21. Bowling for Mid Canterbury, Bo Houston took four for 31 off 9.2 overs, while opener Deon Biggs claimed three for 31 off 17 overs.
Mid Canterbury faced 21.2 overs before rain stopped play. It was 90 for one, needing 94 runs to win with 38.4 overs still to be bowled.
Des Kruger was unbeaten on 51 and Will Southby on 16. Stephan Grobler had taken the wicket of Nick Gilbert.
North Otago will host Otago Country next weekend in a two-day Hawke Cup fixture, while Mid Canterbury will play South Canterbury in Ashburton.
