Valley made it four from five when it defeated Oamaru, last season’s winner, in the Dick Hunt twenty20 final at Whitestone Stadium on Friday night. Oamaru captain Robbie Breen won the toss and put Valley in to bat on a greenish track but Valley made light of the challenge and, inspired by a hard-hit 64 from captain Lachie Kingan, made 182 for five in its 20 overs.

Ollie Kinzett (28), Simon Burnett (34) and all-rounder Cameron Grubb (25) provided support. Stephan Grobler, who took three for 34, and Nick Johnston, two for 32, were the most successful Oamaru bowlers.

Oamaru never built any momentum with the bat and was dismissed for 114. Isaac Clunie was the pick of the batsmen, as Oamaru’s innings closed at 114 for nine after the 20 overs. Cameron Grubb took two for 20 and Eli Ewing, three for 10.
