Union maintained its lead in Borton Cup cricket in North Otago when, in Saturday’s round of senior club cricket, played on artificial pitches, it defeated St Kevin’s College by 140 runs.
Boosted by an unbeaten 112 from Duncan Drew, Union scored 249 for five wickets.
Drew received solid support from Garry Singh (56), Tom Shields (22) and Brad Fleming (28). Fleming was celebrating his 100th senior game for Union.
Bowling for St Kevin’s College, Jacob Fowler took two for 44 and Ben Kay claimed two for 40.
Lachlan Brookes (45) dominated the St Kevin’s batting with a gutsy 35 as the College side slumped to be all out for 106.
Bowling for Union, Singh claimed five for 13 while Graham Whyte took two for 17.
The Oamaru bowlers guided the side to a 135-run victory over Albion at Don Field in windy conditions.
Oamaru, batting first, made 246 before the final wicket fell.
David Percival (44), Reece Curle (36) and Ricky Singh (36) were the best of the batsmen, while for Albion Tom Squire (three for 48), Jonty Naylor (two for 49) and veteran Brad Kernahan (two for 66) were the best of the bowlers.
Albion was dismissed for just 111in just 24 overs.
Jonty Naylor stood out with a fine 48, while Kernahan added 27.
With the ball, Siwach Lakshay took four for 39 off eight overs Ben Coleman two for two.
At the Glenavy domain, Valley defeated the home side by 83 runs.
Valley made 296 for nine with Lachie Kingan (73), Cameron Grubb (51) and Jack Price (40) dominating the opposition bowling attack.
Valley then turned around, dismissing Glenavy for 213. Ben Mavor was the pick of the Valley bowlers taking four for 14, including a hat-trick.
