The final round of Borton Cup cricket, before the semifinals and finals, will be played next Saturday. Union (105 points), Oamaru (95) and Albion (65) are assured of a place in the semifinals and Valley, Waitaki Boys, and St Kevin's College (all on 45) will be playing off for the fourth place next Saturday.

At the Whitestone outer ground, Albion won the toss against Union and made 148. Alex Martin (42) and Tom Squire (30) were the best of the batsmen, while Brad Fleming (four for 33), Gary Singh (three for 38) and Blake James (three for 21) claimed wickets for Union.

Union lost Anthony Cromwell early in its innings but Tom Shields (86 not out) and Glynn Cameron (26) saw Union through to 149 for two.

St Kevin's College first XI, 199-10 scored a minor upset at Weston, when it defeated Valley by 18 runs.

Former Otago Volts allrounder Craig Smith led the way with 104 runs, while Lachlan Brookes (37) gave support before the innings closed at 199.

Bowling for Valley, Cameron Grubb (three for 14), Geoff Mavor (three for 28) and Hamish McKenzie (two for 49) did the damage for Valley.

Batting for Valley, Cameron Grubb (68) led the way and had support from Neil Gill (28) and Shannon Dunnett (26) who were the best of the rest, before the innings ended at 181 runs.

Ben Kay (four for 15 off 10 overs) and Brookes (two wickets) led the College bowlers.

On the Whitestone inner ground, Oamaru defeated Waitaki Boys’ High School first XI by six wickets.

Waitaki Boys’ won the toss and elected to bat. The 10th wicket fell with the total at 153 runs in the 44th over.

Liam Mavor (52) was the driving force for Waitaki Boys while player-coach Angus Philpott (28) and Sam Keno (18) gave support. Mavor and Keno featuring with a sixth wicket partnership of 77. Oamaru provided 25 extras.

Bowling for Oamaru, Stefan Grobler (four for 20 and Reece Curle (two for 36) were the successful Oamaru bowlers.

Oamaru, inspired by Nick Johnston (91) and Jordan Bartlett (24 not out) who featured in a second-wicket stand of 79 saw Oamaru through to the required 158 runs in the 29th over.

Liam Mavor took two for 18 off his seven overs.
