North Otago gained first-innings points in its Hawke Cup zone four match at Timaru over the weekend but it could have been better.

The visiting side scored 156 in its first innings, skipper Lachlan Kingan compiling 50 and Ben Donkers notching 52.

In reply, South Canterbury was skittled for 95, Cameron Grubb taking six for 44 and Jeremy Smith securing four wickets.

South Canterbury was 55 for six at the end of play on a weather-interrupted Saturday.

North Otago took 58 overs to reach 191 for seven in its second innings before it declared.

That set South Canterbury a target of over 250.

Reaching that was never going to happen and the rain continued to get involved.

Although North Otago made some early inroads, the game was called off with South Canterbury 37 for four after 28 overs.
