Rosebowl to Albion as top qualifer

Albion is the Dick Hunt Rosebowl champion for the first time in 13 years.

The final scheduled for Friday night was abandoned due to heavy rain.

By virtue of being the top qualifier, Albion was declared the winner of the T20 holiday competition.

On Saturday, the Borton Cup resumed with St Kevin’s beating Oamaru by eight wickets, Union beating Valley by 126 runs, and Waitaki Boys’ securing a 102-run win over Glenavy.

Oamaru was rolled for 47 in its game against St Kevin’s with Jacob Fowler (three for 10) and Campbell Fowler (three for six) dominating for the school team.

St Kevin’s reached the target in the 10th over for the loss of two wickets, opener Liam Cameron making 21.

Union posted a commanding 277 for eight against Valley thanks to an aggressive innings from Kane Mclauchlan (84 off 62 balls).

Later in the innings, Brad Fleming (51) guided Union to the competitive total.

For Valley, Angus Ruddenklau took two for 61, Ben Kay two for 39 and Dallas Mahuika two for 34.

In its chase, Valley lost wickets regularly and was unable to build any partnerships.

Mahuika scored 23 as Valley was dismissed for 151 in the 31st over.

Brad Fleming led the Union attack with three for 34, supported by Mason James (two for 23), Gary Singh (two for 36) and Duncan Drew (two for 13).

Waitaki Boys’ recorded 247 for six in its 50 overs, led by 72 from Hunter Wardle.

Joshua Miller (43) and Alex Wilson (46 not out) also provided significant contributions, while Zach Graham took two for 56 for Glenavy.

Glenavy struggled in its chase, and was all out for 145 in the 35th over.

Only openers Matt Tangney (54) and Hamish McCulloch (31) provided any resistance as the school picked up its first win for the Borton Cup this season.

Samuel Petrie took four for 44 and Wilson two for two for Waitaki.
