Defending champions St Kevins lead the Borton Cup standings after the second round of Borton Cup cricket was completed over the weekend.

Oamaru were made to regret electing to bat first, dismissed for only 92 runs in 32 overs. Campbell Fowler took 3-34, Jack Kelly 2-2 and Jacob Fowler 2-5 of 7 overs for the College students.

After Toby Growcott 28 and Jack Kelly 26no put on 50 for the opening wicket, St Kevins lost 4 wickets before they passed Oamaru’s total in the 22nd over. For Oamaru Stephan Grobler took 2-32.

Another low-scoring game was played at Milner Park with Waitaki Boys struggling against accurate Union bowling. Batting for 41 overs they only reached 80 runs, Alex Wilson top-scoring 26 of 86 deliveries. Blake James took 3-15 of 10 overs, Scott Kitto ripped through the middle and lower order taking 5-9 of 7 overs.

Union veterans, Thomas and Jeremiah Shields complied 32 runs for the opening wicket, but then Waitaki started a fight back taking a further 3 wickets for the addition of only 8 runs. Captain Blake James then steadied the ship, making sure no further wickets fell being 24 not out, Union finishing with 81/4 in the 15th over. Hunter Wardle 3-25 of 4.5 overs.

Glenavy batted first in its first game of the season against Valley, reaching 225/10 in 50 overs. In a typically big-hitting innings, Rodney van Leeuwen made 53 of 16 balls, Matt Tangney 46, Jordan Mulligan 24no and Kurt Thomas 21. For Valley Angus Ruddenklau 4-41 and Jack Cameron 2-24 of 10 overs.

Valley struggled to gain ascendancy as it lost wickets at key times. Shannon Dunnett top scored with 49 and Dallas Mahuika 47. Kurt Thomas took 3-40, Stafford Adams 2-2 and Ross McCulloch 2-51. Valley all out for 158 in 33 overs, 68 runs short of victory.
