The second round of the Dick Hunt Rosebowl Twenty20 Competition was played on Friday night Union defeated Valley with 5 balls to spare, while Albion defeated Glenavy by 32 runs.

At the Glenavy Domain, Albion decided to bat first finishing with 152/8 in their 20 overs. Openers Albert Francis (34) and Tarras Beardsmore (21) got their side of to a good start, while college student Campbell Fowler top scored with 48, including 5 sixes on the artificial wicket.

For the home side, Kurt Thomas took 3-30, Ryan Moffat 2-18 and Zach Graham 2-34.

In its reply, Glenavy lost wickets in clumps as they struggled to put together partnerships to mount a serious chase.

Graham 36 was the only batsman to make a score of note, as his side was bowled all out for 120, in the 20th over.

Albion’s Aneesh Bose took 4-13 including the final two wickets in consecutive balls, and Fowler took 2-14.

At King George Park, Valley won the toss and elected to bat. Valley made a reasonable start but then collapsed to lose 3 wickets in three balls, then another an over later to leave them in trouble at 32-4 in the 5th over. Sam Senior 22 and Harry Mavor 27 combined to steady the innings but the push for the runs in the final overs struggled to accelerate. Valley all out for 128 in 19 overs.

Union’s Blake James bowled well for his 3-33, Brad Fleming 2-16 and Jake Greenslade took 2-4.

Valley took some early wickets to look like they were in the game but Kane Mclauchlan 27 at the top of the order, and then James 39no playing an anchor role and Brad Fleming 21no led them to victory. Union finishing with 129/5 in 19.1 overs.

Opening bowler Tom Pitchford took 2-17.
