Union, Oamaru have wins on second day of 20/20 cricket

A magnificent innings of 92 which included seven fours and seven sixes from Glen Paterson gave Oamaru a 57 run win over Valley in the third round of 20/20 cricket played on Saturday. Valley asked Oamaru to bat first and had immediate success having Oamaru 40 for four after nine overs. Paterson however turned the game around with his innings. The best of the Valley bowlers were Tom Squire who took three for 32 and Byron Neil who claimed two for ten off his three overs.

In reply after four overs Valley was ten for one and apart from a Geoff Mavor 22 the batsmen failed to fire and the tenth wicket fell in the 20th over with the total at 92. Khalil took three for 23 while David Sewell and Jordan Horrell took two wickets each for Oamaru.

Union scored a ten wicket win over Albion when the two unbeaten sides from the previous week met. Albion decided to bat first and made 104 for eight in its 20 overs with Peter Cartwright unbeaten on 49 and Darren Shillito adding 24. Glyn Cameron took three for 18 and Stu Dickinson two for nine for Union.

An unbeaten opening stand of 105 took Union to its win with Antony Cromwell (60) and Jeremiah Shields(24) dominating the Albion bowling. Cromwell was in devastating form taking 20 runs off the fifth Albion over.
