Yesterday afternoon a team from the Tureka Club proceeded to Pukeuri to try conclusions with the Pukeuri-Hilderthorpe team. The country captain won the toss and elected to bat. A Goodall and S. White opening to the bowling of Doig and Thomson. None of the batsmen appeared to be able to do anything with the bowling, and wickets fell in rapid succession, the whole team being disposed of for a total of six. Both bowlers were in excellent form, and secured good averages, Doig taking six wickets for no runs (including the hat trick) and Thomson four for four. The town team put together 88 before the last wicket fell, Doig claiming no less than 58 of that number. He gave a grand display of his hitting powers, one splendid stroke producing seven runs. Gibb also batted well for his 14. A. Goodall bowled best for this side, securing four wickets for nine runs. In their second innings, the country team were all disposed of for 26, the match therefore ending in a win for Tureka by an innings and 55 runs. Thomson and Doig again bowled well, the former taking six wickets for nine runs, and the latter three for fifteen.
