A very enjoyable friendly game was played at Pukeuri on Thursday, November 9th, between teams representing the above clubs, and attracted a fair sprinkling of spectators. The Capulets on going to the wickets were all disposed of for the total of 31, R Crawshaw 10, and G McGhie 12 not out, being the top scorers. The bowling of A. Goodall proved to be very destructive, he managing to secure 8 wickets for 12 runs. The country team replied with 34 runs, T. Cuthbertson (11) being the one to reach double figures, G. McPhie carrying off the bowling honors with 5 wickets for 1o runs. The Capulets in their second effort knocked up 43, F. Eggington (13) and C. Flynn (12) being to scorers, A. Goodall bowling 3 for 9 and D. Herald 4 for 11. The country team required 41 to win and knocked up the requisite number for the loss of 6 wickets, but on being to decided to play it out they were declared the winners by 18 runs. J. White (12) being the only one to reached the coveted double figures. The game being finished early a one inning match of 13 a-side was indulged in, the country team again proving victorious by the loss of six wickets. Refreshments were provided during the day by the ladies, and at the conclusion of the match cheers were called for the ladies and heartily responded to by the cricketers, when the Capulets returned to town, although beaten, seemingly well satisfied with their day’s out, all having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
