The above match was played on the Maerewhenua ground on Saturday 11th, before a large gathering of spectators. Waitaki won the toss, and put the home team in to bat. They succeeded in knocking up 70 runs before the last wicket fell, the principal scorers being D. Weir (14), Bedford (13), and Hughes (20 not out). The visitors responded with 30, Ross (10) being the only batsmen to reach double figures. In their second innings, Maerewhenua put up 56, Bedford contributing 27. Waitaki, requiring 97 to win, only succeeded with 38, Ross again playing a good innings of 26. The match which was much enjoyed, thus ended in a win to Maerewhenua by 40 runs. J. Orr bowled best for Waitaki taking 10 wickets for 32 runs. For Maerewhenua Hutchinson (5 wickets for 9 runs), Bedford (4 for 14), Nelson (5 for 23) bowled well.
