Albion, Union have massive wins while Valley defend Payne Tempero

Valley moved to outright lead in Borton Cup cricket with a five run win over Waitaki Boys High School at Weston Park. Albion demolished St Kevin's College winning by 169 runs at Awamoa Park while Union beat Oamaru by 192 runs at King George Park.

Valley won the toss and batting first made 262 for five in its 50 overs. Kelvin Mansfield gave the side a good start with his 24 and after 26 overs Valley was poised at 110 for two. Byron Neil added 30 but it was Matt Pile with an unbeaten 65 who guided the side through to 262. Geoff Mavor added 31 while Geoff Mansfield was unbeaten on 30. Bowling for Waitaki Boys Adrian Myburgh took two for 34 and Sean Todd two for 56.

Waitaki started brightly at 106 for two after 20 overs with Craig Robertson 58 not out. Robertson went on to make 77 while Myburgh added an invaluable 48. Matt Day chipped vin with 25 while Sean Todd added the icing with an unbeaten 48 before Waitaki fell five runs short of victory. Hamish McKenzie took three for 51 while Pile and Kelvin Mansfield took two wickets each.

Albion demolished St Kevin's College at Awamoa Park. St Kevin's sent Albion in to bat and aided by an impressive 110 runs from Brad Kernahan raced through to 325 before the final wicket fell in the 40th over. Marshall Smith gave good support with 47 and Gareth Duncan with 38 while further down the order Johnny McMann(29) and David Roulston(21) batted well. Bowling for St Kevin's Tim Gourlay took three for 57 and Peter O'Malley two for 73.

It took only ten overs for Albion to oust St Kevin's which collapsed to be all out for a mere 56 with Dylan Winter taking five for 23 and Kernahan three for 27.

A fine innings of 142 from Duncan Drew laid the foundation for Union's 2721 all out against Oamaru. Drew received solid support from Antony Cromwell(21) and Glynn Cameron(29) while bowling for Oamaru Josh Gutsell, Kieran Paterson and Scott Wilson took two wickets each.

Oamaru lasted only 25 overs as it was dismissed for 80 with Gerry Cunningham top scoring with 23. Bowling for Union Phil Crossan and Neil Louw took four wickets each.
