Tuesday, 15 December 2009

Union maintained its lead in Dick Hunt trophy cricket in Oamaru on Saturday when it defeated Valley by 80 runs at Weston Park and Albion beat Oamaru at Awamoa Park by five wickets.

Valley won the toss and put Union in to bat. A solid innings of 46 from Glynn Cameron took Union through to 141 for eight after 36 overs. Todd Sidon chipped in with 20 as did all-rounder Phil Crossan before the innings closed in the 44th over for 191. Craig Direen, Hamish McKenzie, Tom Squire and Aaron McKay took two wickets each for Valley.

Valley never really got under way in its chase as the side slumped to 85 for eight after 21 overs lasting a further four overs before the innings closed at 111. Craig Direen was unbeaten on 30 while bowling for Union Crossan took four for 48 off his ten overs and Dan Conlan claimed three for 36.

Oamaru won the toss and decided to bat first against Albion and made a promising start at 63 for two after 12 overs but the middle order apart from Andrew Sewell(24) could not build on the start and it was only an unbeaten 41 from Angus Gawn that saw Oamaru through to 137 before the final wicket fell in the 27th over. Ryan Walsh took five for 35 for Albion.

Although Albion lost opener Darren Shillito to the first ball of the innings Daniel Fletcher(36) and Gareth Duncan(57) steadied the side as it made 142 for the loss of five wickets in the 26th over. Ben Coleman took three for 31 for Oamaru.
