A Tom Squire century paved the way for Valley's 158 run win over Oamaru at Whitestone stadium on Saturday while up at King George Park a fine innings of 74 from Ben Sheat carried Union to a 167 run win over Albion.
Oamaru won the toss and put Valley in to bat on a pitch which produced slow bounce after rain overnight. After 16 overs Valley was 44 for two and at 114 for six after 36 overs looked set to collapse. However an 82 run partnership for the seventh wicket between Squire(122) and Craig Direen(30) saw Valley safely through to 269 for nine at the end of the 50 overs with Aaron McKay batting at 11 unbeaten on 43. Khalil and Paul Selbie each took three wickets for Oamaru while Scott Wilson claimed two for 63 off five overs.
Oamaru could not build momentum and after being 26 for two after 12 overs was dismissed for 111 in the 25th over with Wilson top scoring with 28 and Kieran Paterson adding 25. Direen off seven overs took five for 30 while McKay and Hamish McKenzie took two wickets each.
Albion put Union in to bat and Duncan Drew(26) gave Union a promising start at 62 for three after 11 overs with Albion's Ryan Walsh having figures of two for one at that stage. Jeremiah Shields(21) and Glynn Cameron(36) saw Union through to 123 for five before the lower order came to light with Ben Sheat(74) and Paul Johnston(52) adding 124 for the seventh wicket as Union compiled 259 for eight in its 50 overs. Brad Kernahan, Paul O'Dell and Ryan Walsh each took two wickets for Albion.
After eight overs Albion was 25 for one but the side collapsed to be all out for 92 in the 31st over with Kernahan top scoring with 27 while Cameron took four for 23 and Ian Low three for 20 for Union.
